Social media influencer Madison Humphrey has captivated audiences with her engaging comedy skits and relatable online presence. Beyond her entertaining content, Madison recently embarked on a personal journey involving plastic surgery, a decision she chose to share with her audience with characteristic honesty. In this interview, Madison opens up about the unexpected emotional and mental transformations that followed her chin liposuction and neck lift, revealing how the experience became a powerful lesson in self-acceptance, patience, and the importance of trusting the process. From navigating the challenges of social media backlash to discovering new depths of vulnerability, Madison’s story is a testament to the power of authenticity and the unexpected ways life’s experiences can shape us.
Interviewer: How has your plastic surgery journey impacted your life beyond the physical changes? Has it shifted your self-perception, your relationships, or your outlook on life in any unexpected ways?
Madison: As weird as this answer might sound, post-plastic surgery helped me learn a lot about how much I struggle with control. I wanted the results to be immediate, and I would often get frustrated when I couldn’t see a change right away. I talked a lot with Dr. B about how our bodies take time to heal and adjust to different procedures, and how I needed to be patient with myself and my body! I wanted to control something that was completely out of my control (i.e., the healing process after surgery), and it really helped me start to notice other areas of my life where I was letting the fear of not being in control take over. The healing journey after plastic surgery, or any surgery, takes time, and once I allowed myself to accept that and release control over that, I was so much happier. I could allow myself to enjoy the results as they settled in over time!
Madison Humphrey’s Chin Liposuction Recovery Journey
Interviewer: Was there a particular moment during your plastic surgery journey that surprised you or challenged your initial expectations? How did this experience shape your understanding of the process or its impact on your life?
Madison: I think a moment that surprised me on my plastic surgery journey was when I went in to see Dr. Bassichis about 5 months after surgery, and I really got to see the before and after photos of the procedure results. It really hit me just how much the area under my chin had changed in the way I was hoping it would change, and how happy I was that I allowed myself to trust the healing process.
This specific moment helped me realize that everything in life takes time! I keep saying it, but truly it showed me how to trust the process with everything. There were, of course, hard days and days when I was worried that maybe the surgery “didn’t work on me,” but just like in life, we have to pick ourselves up and keep going. Also, I learned to allow myself grace on the days that were extra hard because we are all human and learning as we go!
Procedures Dr. Bassichis Performed on Madison
- Submentoplasty (liposuction under the chin and tightening of the platysma muscle)
- Filler along the jawline to enhance the jawline
- Filler to enhance the cheekbones
- Filler to enhance the lips
- BOTOX® to soften the lines on the forehead and around the eyes
Interviewer: How has your experience with plastic surgery influenced your platform and your message as an influencer? Has it inspired you to advocate for certain causes, share your story more openly, or connect with your audience in new ways?
Madison: At first, I was very hesitant about sharing my plastic surgery journey on social media. Everyone has an opinion, and I was really worried about getting backlash. However, at the end of the day, I reminded myself that I have built my brand on being transparent and real. This was a personal decision I made, and if people were offended by it, then I can’t control that. When I did start sharing about my surgery on social media, I was so surprised by the positive feedback from so many of my followers. I even got to provide some information about my personal experience to people who were curious about the surgery for themselves but didn’t have anyone to talk to about it.
My platform is mainly comedy-based skits, and while I absolutely love it, it’s nice to be able to share some of my personal life from time to time. In sharing about my plastic surgery, I got to invite my followers into an area of my life that I was excited about, and it was so fun to see the reactions, good and bad, of people who really didn’t know me outside of comedy. It served as a gateway for me to be able to share other personal aspects of my life, too.
Madison Humphrey’s Plastic Surgery Experience
Interviewer: What has been the most challenging or unexpected aspect of sharing your plastic surgery journey with your audience? How has vulnerability played a role in your experience, and what advice would you give to others considering sharing their own stories?
Madison: I’d say the most challenging part about sharing my plastic surgery online is the negative backlash I get from people who just don’t understand. As much as it hurts to read hate comments, it doesn’t make me mad or upset with those people at all. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I have learned that I can’t control what every single person says or thinks about me. I have to make decisions based on my personal beliefs and objectives, and I can’t make decisions because people online tell me to. Plastic surgery is a very personal and intimate decision, so when people get upset because I did it, I just have to remind myself that it wasn’t their decision; it was mine. I can take their negative feedback at face value and move on with my life very happy with the decision I made!
The advice I would give others considering sharing their story is to expect negative feedback, have a strong support system around you that you feel comfortable going to and talking things over with, and only share your story because YOU want to, not because you feel pressured to! I think that is what made me enjoy sharing my story so much more because I went into it originally not planning to share. But, once I allowed myself time to learn and wrestle with the healing journey privately, I felt so excited to share with my audience all that I had learned and was continuing to learn.
Interviewer: If you could share one key takeaway from your plastic surgery journey with your followers, what would it be? What message of hope, empowerment, or self-love do you hope to convey through your story?
Madison: While there are a lot of key takeaways from my plastic surgery journey, if I had to choose one, it would be to release control of the process and trust it. I was forced to do this after my surgery, no matter how much I wanted to just speed it up and get my results immediately. But once I settled into the fact that everything takes time, my process was so enjoyable and gratifying! I have since taken this and applied it to other areas of my life, especially in work. There are things in my professional life on social media that I wish I had, or I wish I were already at, etc. BUT, I have learned that all good things take time, self-love, healing, and trust in the process.
