In general anesthesia, anesthesiologists administer a combination of medications along with a breathing tube to induce an unconscious paralysis in patients undergoing medical procedures. However, general anesthesia carries associated risks, potential complications, and requires a longer recovery time. For these reasons, Dr. Bassichis almost never employs general anesthesia for his surgical treatments. Instead, he opts for safer and more reliable methods of local anesthesia, twilight anesthesia, and laryngeal mask airways (LMA).
Safe & Reliable Methods
Dr. Bassichis and his team customize the anesthetic approach to ensure each patient’s optimal surgical experience. Local anesthesia uses injected medications that reduce discomfort while decreasing bleeding during procedures and minimizing bruising afterward. Beyond local anesthesia, Dr. Bassichis uses Board-Certified Physician Anesthesiologists (MD Anesthesia) exclusively to ensure patient safety and minimize complications. Twilight anesthesia involves an intravenous medication called propofol to safely and gently sedate patients. This anesthetic is commonly used in various medical settings, including colonoscopies. Our anesthesia doctors also utilize laryngeal mask airways (LMA) in the patient’s mouth to protect patients’ breathing and airways during Dr. Bassichis’ procedures.
By employing customized and layered local anesthesia, twilight anesthesia, and LMA, Dr. Bassichis and his surgical team aim to provide the safest and most effective anesthetic experience for their patients.
