What Is a Facelift?
Facelift surgery, also known as rhytidectomy, is a popular cosmetic procedure used to combat facial aging and restore a natural, youthful look to your facial structure. A facelift is specifically designed to address facial volume loss and jowling. Multiple facial reconstructions or rejuvenation surgeries can be used alone or combined to produce age-defying results and efficiently reduce the appearance of wrinkles, creases, and folds on the face. In most cases, facelifts reverse the effects of aging by about 7-10 years and offer dramatic, beautiful, and natural-looking results in one session.
Facelift Benefits
Reduces Sagging Skin
A facelift effectively addresses loose or sagging skin in the lower face, jowls, and neck, creating a smoother, more defined appearance.
Minimizes Wrinkles and Fine Lines
By removing excess skin, it smooths out wrinkles and fine lines, particularly around the mouth and jawline, for a more youthful complexion.
Lifts and Tightens Facial Muscles
Restores a more youthful contour to the face by tightening underlying facial muscles.
Improves Jawline Definition
Creates a more defined and sculpted jawline
Restores a More Youthful Profile
Enhances the overall profile by creating a smoother, more youthful transition between the face and neck.
Boosts Confidence
A refreshed and rejuvenated appearance can significantly improve self-esteem and confidence.
Long-Lasting Results
When combined with a healthy lifestyle, the results of a facelift can last for many years.

Real Patients. Real Results

Am I a Good Candidate for a Facelift?
You are a good candidate for a facelift if you have moderate to significant skin laxity in the face and neck and are looking for a long-lasting solution to address the visible signs of aging. You should also be healthy and have realistic expectations about the procedure’s outcome.
A non-surgical solution, such as dermal fillers or laser resurfacing, might be a better option if you have minor skin laxity.
How Old Do I Have to Be?
There is no specific age requirement for a facelift. You are considered an ideal candidate if you have noticeable signs of aging on your face, regardless of your chronological age. While there is no ideal age to get a facelift, some patients may start with a mini facelift or midface lift around ages 35-45. A comprehensive full facelift or lower facelift is more likely to be done after age 45.
Types of Facelifts
Based on your unique needs, there are multiple facial rejuvenation surgeries to choose from for more stunning results. The most popularly requested facelift surgeries requested by our Dallas patients include:
Full Facelift
Otherwise known as a traditional facelift, this procedure is well suited to remedy considerable problem areas and dramatically restore a more youthful and vibrant facial appearance. A full facelift creates incisions around the ears and seamlessly into the hairline. Fat and skin are removed to smooth skin, redefine wrinkles, and create a more defined jawline, jowls, chin, and facial contour.
Midface Lift
A midface lift, also known as a cheek lift or vertical facelift, targets the cheeks and under-eye hollows. This procedure helps to soften ‘marionette lines’ (present from the side of the mouth to chin) and elevates the corners of the mouth for a more rested look. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or micro-fat grafting is commonly paired with a mid-facelift for improved results.
Lower Facelift
A lower facelift focuses on correcting facial aging signs by the neck, ear to mouth, and down. This is a suitable procedure for patients who have developed jowls, loose skin, and lost a significant amount of collagen and elasticity under the neck and chin area. Removing skin and fat from this area helps remove the drooping “turkey neck” look due to hereditary factors or the natural aging process.
Mini Facelift
A mini facelift is uniquely designed for younger patients with general skin looseness or mild jowls, but have yet to show significant signs of aging or wrinkles. A mini facelift will tighten the face and jowl area but is less invasive than a traditional facelift.

What Is Facelift Surgery Like?
As a facelift surgeon, Dr. Bassichis understands the reasons for undergoing facial rejuvenation surgery are very personal and that there is no “one size fits all” method. As such, our team at Advanced Facial Plastic Surgery Center is dedicated to your comfort and safety throughout your surgical journey. Facelift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation at our accredited on-site surgical center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Bassichis uses advanced surgical techniques to minimize scarring and offer natural-looking results. The specific technique will depend on your individual needs and the desired rejuvenation.
Facelift surgery involves marking the face and placing inconspicuous incisions around the natural creases of the ears and hairline, and, in some cases, under the chin or around the neck’s jowls. The skin is then removed or repositioned to “lift” and elevate sagging tissues, skin, and loose muscles to create a more youthful and vibrant look. Once Dr. Bassichis has achieved your aesthetic ideal, the incision is closed with either stitches or a compression garment that will allow the tissues to heal.
How Long Does a Facelift Surgery Take?
Facelift surgery can take about 3-6 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure or the use of combination procedures to produce enhanced results.
What Should I Expect in Terms of Recovery?
After your facelift, you can expect some swelling and bruising, which will gradually subside over the following weeks. Dr. Bassichis and his team will provide detailed post-operative instructions to promote a smooth and comfortable recovery. In most cases, your stitches or bandages will be removed 5-10 days after surgery, and normal activities can be resumed within a few weeks. Expect a full facelift surgery recovery after a few months; at this time, your incisions would heal, and the superficial tissues and underlying muscles would have significantly changed to reveal a tighter, rested, and more youthful appearance. Because we proudly offer a high level of personalized care, the team at Advanced Facial Plastic Surgery is here to guide you through your facelift journey even after you’ve left our surgery center.
